Partly submerged jetty for disabled access

May 2004

Brief

To create an under water platform for disabled waterskiers complete with wheelchair access.

Solution

A 1.2m wide level walkway built out from the shore to deep water, followed by a 20 degree downward sloping ramp to a level 3m long platform approximately 250mm below water level, all with twin rail railings.

Challenges

Ensuring that the jetty and sloping ramp were constructed to the right level and angle to ensure safe access for disabled skiers.  The jetty also had to be partially submerged to the right depth to enable disabled waterskiers to assume the correct skiing position before being towed off by the ski-boat.
