Brief

Our client, a well-established canoe club, required the rejuvenation of their aging wooden landing stage, which had become unsafe and impractical. The new structure needed to be durable, low-maintenance, and inclusive—suitable for both recreational paddlers and para-athletes, some of whom compete at an Olympic level. This upgrade aimed to enhance access, usability, and the overall experience for all users.

Solution

We engineered and installed a bespoke jetty system featuring an aluminium frame paired with stone-grey composite decking and cladding for durability and visual appeal. The design incorporated upper and lower landing levels to accommodate varying freeboards of different watercraft and fluctuating water levels between summer and winter. A smooth, water-facing edge was carefully integrated, enabling seamless seal launches for kayaks, ensuring ease of use for both beginners and elite athletes alike.

Challenges

The project began with the removal of the rotten timber structure, only to reveal uneven and deteriorated concrete beneath. This required us to adapt the plan and fabricate custom sections that levelled the platform while maintaining structural integrity. Other logistical hurdles included very cold weather conditions, restricted access to the site, and minimal parking—complicated further by the need to transport materials via trailer.
