Brief
Redesmere Sailing Club required a complete replacement for their ageing jetty, which had been in place for over 60 years before ultimately collapsing into the lake. The club needed a modern, durable solution that would improve accessibility and support a wider range of users, including junior sailors, less mobile members, and wheelchair users.
The new jetty needed to extend approximately 20 metres and provide a safe, practical surface suitable for regular use by the club. Minimising disruption and ensuring a smooth installation process were also key considerations for this well-used sailing facility.
Solution
We designed and delivered a bespoke 20-metre jetty, constructed using a robust frame system and finished with GRP grid to provide a safe, slip-resistant surface ideal for all users.
To improve efficiency on-site, the jetty was created in modular sections, allowing for a streamlined installation once conditions allowed. Our team also removed the remains of the previous structure, including old jetty stumps, before installing and securing the new jetty into the lake bed using specialist techniques. The result is a strong, low-maintenance structure built for long-term use.
Challenges
One of the main challenges was the removal of the original jetty remains, including old timber stumps embedded in the lake bed. This required careful planning and specialist equipment to ensure safe and effective clearance before installation could begin.
Working within the lake environment also required precise installation techniques to securely fix the new structure in place. Thanks to thorough preparation and off-site fabrication, the installation was completed efficiently, minimising disruption to the club’s activities.
That the Client had to say: “At Redesmere Sailing Club our 60-year-old jetty finally collapsed into the lake. Following a recommendation from a local Club and a few enquiries we decide to use RA Marine to build our brand new jetty. This company were fantastic. They demonstrated lots of experience and expertise from an initial measuring up to installation. Our brand new jetty is a testimony to how professional RA Marine are as a family run company. They listened to our needs about building a 20m jetty which could accommodate junior sailors, less mobile sailors and have wheelchair access. The jetty was built off-site over winter in modular sections. Then they helped to remove the old jetty stumps and expertly installed and fixed the new aluminium framed jetty with expert techniques into the bed of the lake. Chris and his team were extremely professional and we now have a fantastic new jetty which is proving very popular. The jetty was funded through Sport England (National Lottery) Crowdfunding scheme.” Steve, Redesemere Sailing Club
